Mathews Architecture is working with the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville on a projected $3 million exterior renovation of the 12-story Aston Park Tower.
This project, currently at the end of the Construction Document phase, aims to remove the existing deteriorating face brick skin of the tower and replace it with new exterior walls to re-establish weathertightness, to significantly increase energy efficiency, and to transform the appearance of this prominent 1970-era structure.
The proposed new elevations comprise masonry on the lower floors with metal insulated panels on the floors above, and new fenestration throughout all capped off with new feature cornices.
It is hoped that construction will commence in March 2012.
